“Why did I have to chauffer you and the great bridezilla down to the florist?” Lila opened the door to Point Muse’s one and only flower shop and ushered her grandmother and Xandie inside.

“Not bridezilla. I’m the wedding planner. Can’t you tell?” Elspeth smoothed her blonde wig with a bun coiled over each ear. “I even dressed appropriately.”

Xandie fought not to stare at her grandmother, but the urge was just too strong. Elspeth had paired the blonde wig with a white camouflage, velour jogging suit and matching combat boots with a red stripe down the side. The wicked witch of Point Muse could blind with her sartorial brightness. “Why are you wearing white?”

“We all know you’re more suited to black-on-black. Pure evil is allergic to bright white,” Lila muttered.

“I heard that. I can always hex your underwear drawer shut. And now that your reaper boyfriend has moved in, it’d be his underwear drawer as well.” Elspeth sniffed. “Felicity says white is a power color, and as the only wedding planner in town, I have to present a professional image.”

“You’re a wicked witch, not a wedding planner,” Xandie replied automatically. “Speaking of Felicity, I thought she’d be here.”

“Personal time. I think she’s got a new beau. She wanted to sneak off and buy him a little keepsake. The way she was dancing around the subject, I gather it was some sort of paltry three-week anniversary or something sappy like that. Wasn’t hard to read between the lines.” Elspeth clapped her hands and bellowed, “Business is awaiting.”

“Yeah. That’s professional.” Lila leaned against the counter. “Why are we here, anyway?”

“I’m just checking the wedding bouquets on order are okay.” Xandie hesitated. All her cousins were sarcastic and loved to make fun of each other, but she had a nebulous feeling of bad things coming for her wedding. Lila would probably mock her for her feelings, but Xandie just wanted to make sure everything was going to plan, flower wise.

“Harrow bad feeling?”

“Maybe. You don’t want to make fun of me?”

“Your Harrow bad luck-o-meter is more finetuned than mine. If you’ve got a funny feeling, I trust it.” Lila wandered around the store, running a hand over the shelves. She showed her palm to Xandie. “I think your bad feeling was right on target. A dirty business is never a good sign.”

“I don’t disparage your place of work. Please don’t criticize mine.” A large woman with bright orange hair stepped out from the back office, where a curtained window faced the interior of the store. “What do you want, Elspeth?”

“Oh, not me. My favorite granddaughter wants to check on the status of her wedding order. I assured her there’d be no problems. Alley cat here is a top-notch professional florist.” Elspeth turned to Xandie. “Didn’t I say that?”

Nodding her head mechanically, Xandie swallowed. She just knew something bad was about to slap her in the face like a wet fish going in for the kill.

“Alison. My name is Alison.” The florist reached under her desk and drew out a shriveled and dead-looking, pastel-themed wedding bouquet.
